The UP School of Statistics is happy to have Dr. Alexander R. de Leon, an alumnus of the school, as UP Visiting Professor this second semester of Academic Year 2016-2017. He was a former faculty member of UPSS before completing his PhD (Statistics) at the University of Alberta, Canada, in 2002.
Dr. de Leon is currently an associate professor at the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Calgary, Canada. He belongs to the Research Group in Biostatistics (RGB,www.math.ucalgary.ca/biostats), a group of statisticians and biostatisticians in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics who carry out methodological research in statistics with emphasis on its applications in medicine and health, biology, genetics, the environment, and other related fields. A prolific researcher, Dr. de Leon co-edited the monograph Analysis of Mixed Data: Methods and Applications published by Chapman and Hall/CRC in 2013.
This semester, he offers a graduate course on mixed data analysis, one of his long-standing research interests. He is also working with Prof. Raymond Joyce Punzalan on a number of research projects. He hopes to broaden his collaborations with UPSS faculty members and to get involved in graduate supervision. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
