STATISTICS IN SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL ECONOMY
September 27-29, 2017
Call for Participation
Event highlights a 1-day Training and a 2-day Conference
Consistent with the government’s plans to support the LGUs and to further enhance the present system of delivering goods and services to the local constituents, the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) is holding the 2017 Annual Conference under the theme Statistics in Support of the Local Economy in partnership with the GEODATA Systems Technologies, Inc. and, the Philippine Statistics Authority. This shall be held in Bacolod City from September 27-29, 2017.
The growth of the local economy is contingent on the planning and implementation of development policies anchored on quality statistics. Data system that directly inputs into the participatory planning exercise underscores involvement of stakeholders from various sectors of the LGUs and translating their efforts into desired interplay of growth factors that could uplift people’s welfare at the local level.
The LGUs are the cogs that move the local machinery towards economic efficiency. Statistics on the production and utilization of goods and services at the local level should help ensure that benefits straddle across sectors that may include but may not be limited to the education sector and beneficiaries of the K-12 program; infra-structure that backstops various sectors of the industry; financial inclusion that provides access to financial services at affordable costs especially to the disadvantaged population, e.g. micro-financing, inputs to the rural/agricultural sector, health and sanitation, etc.; and, people empowerment that could efficiently address demand for goods and services. Paramount to the growth of the local economy is the information technology that takes account of spatial dimensions in development planning and implementation.
To better prepare local development players and stakeholders for bigger roles as envisioned by the government, four (4) simultaneous trainings shall be conducted on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 on the following topics: a) Small Area Statistics; b) Financial Inclusion in Support of Local Development Initiatives, c) Impact Monitoring and Evaluation for LGUs, and d) Statistics using Geographic Information System (GIS).
Training participants are enjoined to bring laptop.
