The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI), in cooperation with the UP School of Statistics (UPSS) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shall be holding its Annual Conference on 04 October 2022 within the context of the National Convention on Statistics (NCS) under the theme “Boosting the Country’s Recovery with Informed Decisions, Better Policies”. This will be held at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Ortigas Avenue corner, Asian Development Bank Avenue, Quezon City on October 3-5, 2022.

Global pandemic has wrought havoc to the whole of humanity, not only to the health care systems but to the economy as well. Paramount are the concerns of the youth who are the stakeholders in the evolving process of post-pandemic economic recovery. The youth are at the center of information technology revolution, eager and ready to embrace the technology. As the professional association of statisticians and practitioners in the discipline, the PSAI recognizes the crucial role of the educational system and the impact of our data driven culture under the new normal.

In this regard, we believe that it is incumbent upon the PSAI and institutions of higher learning to keep our young generation engaged, capable of harnessing the emergence of new technology, and equipped with skills to look into directions that will help shape their future. They are the stakeholders and they deserve to be heard, to share their insights into how the country would move towards post-pandemic economic recovery. Let us therefore join hands. Let us make the PSAI Best Student Paper Competition the platform through which we keep the youth involved in the recovery process as they are the emerging corps of professionals who would be practitioners in the discipline.

The NCS features a 3-day conference that includes the PSAI Best Student Paper Competition, PSAI Special Session, and the PSAI 70th Founding Anniversary to be held on 04 October 2022.

The competition encourages undergraduate students enrolled in higher education institutions within three years prior to presentation (AY 2019-2020; AY 2020-2021; AY 2021-2022), to submit, individually or as a group, papers which are of excellent quality showcasing the broad field of statistics and/or especially relevant to the theme. Papers shall be evaluated by a committee made up of experts from key universities and institutions.
