2018 PSAI Annual Conference: Call for Papers

As the country holds its ground in global conversations on emerging developments such as open data, big data platforms and data science analytics, the PSAI takes pride in responding to the ever changing data landscape by adopting the theme “Emerging Trends in Statistical Development†in its 2018 Annual Conference which shall be held at the Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City on September 19-21, 2018. The theme is also in consonance with the collective effort of professional social science associations under the Philippine Social Science Council, Inc. (PSSC) which will celebrate its 50th Founding Anniversary in commemoration of the social science legacies in these changing times. PSAI is now accepting paper abstracts for the Annual Conference To move in unison with emerging developments in the Statistics profession and in fields allied to Statistics, the PSAI is now accepting Executive Summaries of contributed papers under the said theme for oral presentation in the Annual Conference. The forum will feature discussions and sharing of experiences on emerging topics which may include but may not be limited to open data, big data, data mining, event-triggered data, live streaming data, trending in social media, data privacy, data coming from various sectors e.g. business, tourism, industry, education, health, migration, geographic information, civil registration, data generated through community-based monitoring systems, and other administrative data; analyzing big volume data using Machine Learning techniques; appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of these emerging data sets ; and, the applicable data analytics that will help decision makers in government and private sectors, stakeholders, and development partners in extracting useful information and in making meaningful suggestions that will benefit governance and decision making at the national and local levels. Active participation through paper presentations and discussions will help bring about knowledge-based, informed decisions that will highlight the power and potential of big volume data, the applicable data analytics, and the critical role of the science of Statistics in these changing data landscape Deadline for submission of Executive Summary is on 31 July 2018. Paper authors interested to present scientific papers in line with the theme are invited to submit the accomplished form together with the Executive Summary to: Dr. Joselito S. Magadia, UP School of Statistics Participating papers with multiple authors must clearly indicate the author with whom the organizers should exchange correspondence. The executive summary should highlight the objectives, methodology and result of the study. It must be written in English in MS Word Times New Roman 12 format, typed single-spaced on A4 paper size with 1 inch margin on all sides and must not be more than 3 pages. The Sub-Committee on Scientific Program, in consultation with the PSAI Annual Conference Committee, will screen applications for paper presentation based on the submitted executive summaries and full papers. Authors of papers shall submit the full paper together with the Executive Summary by email not later than 10 August 2018. These shall be evaluated and authors of the accepted papers for presentation shall be informed by 14 August 2018. Final manuscripts must not exceed 5,000 words, English, single space in A4-sized pages using 12-point Times New Roman font in MS-Word format. Additional instructions will be given to the authors of selected papers. The final manuscripts must be submitted to the Chair of the Sub-Committee on Scientific Program and to the PSAI Secretariat. All papers accepted and received by the Committee and the Secretariat on or before 10 August 2018 will be included in the PSAI Annual Conference 2018 e-compilation of papers.
